| Meet Lily |
Denise didn’t choose Lily, her cat. “Lily actually chose me!” she says.
A Friendly Intruder
“As I pulled up to the house one August afternoon, she ran across the driveway. I got out of the car and walked to the front door, but instead of running away, Lily walked right up to me. She jumped up on her hind legs as if to say, “Pet me!” I did, and couldn’t believe such a friendly cat was running around loose. She walked around me in circles, and I couldn’t get in the house. She wasn’t wearing a collar, nor did she have a microchip ID.”

“Lily showed up every night around 6:00 for dinner and would hang out in the yard,” continues Denise. “After two weeks I took her to get spayed and eventually she moved inside. She got out a few times but now she doesn’t even try to run out the door. I’m sure she misses it, though. She can vault a four-foot chain-link fence!”
Fair Weather Cat
One reason Denise thinks her cat may miss the outdoor life is that “Lily loves to sunbathe in an open window. Even if it is open only a few inches, she will climb up and squeeze in between the window and the screen.”
Or maybe Lily just enjoys snoozing in the warm sun, because she’s not much of a snow lover.
“She landed in a few inches of snow.
She didn’t know what to do! She was
really startled by the snow.”
“The first winter she stayed with me,” recalls Denise, “she got out the back door. When Lily jumped out, she landed in a few inches of snow — and just crouched there. She didn’t know what to do! She was really startled by the snow.”
When Lily wants to catnap in the bay window, she faces competition. “Lily shares a house with two other cats, a small dog, and any number of foster cats and kittens,” Denise says. “The only ones she doesn’t hiss at are the baby kittens. She’s a bit of a loner and prefers to do her own thing.”
A Touch of Sass
“Lily is a cat who does not like to cuddle,” Denise continues. “She will sit near you, but not next to you, and never on the couch. Unless you’re sick, then she’ll lay against you. But still not on the couch.” In fact, the only time Lily cuddled with Denise was when she was recuperating from being spayed. “When I brought her home from the surgery, she curled up on my chest and went to sleep. I fell in love with her all over again! Incidentally,” she adds, “this was the first and only time she has cuddled with anyone – she is a very independent girl who does not like to cuddle!”

She may be independent, but in the three years Lily has been with Denise, she has become attached. “Lily gets up with me in the morning,” Denise says. “She walks around the house to use all of the cat scratchers, but then comes back to my room while I get ready for work. She follows me out to the door when I leave. On the weekend or a day off, she spends most of the day with me.”
Heads Up!
Lily is an excellent communicator. “Lily jumps up when she wants to be pet,” says Denise. “She holds her paws in front of her like a bunny rabbit and raises herself straight up on her hind legs in an attempt to headbutt your hand. If you don’t pet her on the head, she turns around and does it again. It is just so endearing; I have never seen any animal do this. Everyone laughs when they see it. She’s done it since the first day I met her.
Lily will also headbutt other times when she wants to be petted. My favorite is when she headbutts against my forehead; my heart melts.”
Lily and BLUE
“I chose Spa Select for Lily as a kitten because of its natural ingredients,” Denise says, “and also the fact that you use real meat and not by-products. I tried another brand when she changed to adult cat food but she didn’t really like it and it upset her stomach. We went back to Spa Select and have stayed with you since!”
